The Preferred UDSoftware Distribution Method

Updated March 12, 2008

The preferred software distribution method (PSDM) utilizes a component of Novell ZENworks known as the Novell Application Launcher (NAL) to track and manage the software UD provides. Ultimately, UDit currently supports two methods of using UD Software: via the NAL (strongly recommended) or via a web-based interface.

To use the NAL and the PDSM, please follow these instructions:

  1. Make sure that you are running the current version of Novell Client32. To check this, in the system tray, you should have a red N.
    • If you do, right click on the N and select "Novell Client Properties." The Product ID should read "4.91.4.20070720".
    • If not, please download the latest client by clicking here.

  2. Determine if you are currently logged into the network.
    • To check this, right click on the red N again. Select "Novell Connections." If you are logged in, you will see "UDAYTON" listed under "Resources."
    • If you are not logged in, right click on the red N. Select "Novell Login." Enter your LDAP username/passowrd combination.
    • NOTE: If the "Workstation Only" box is checked, you are NOT logging into the Novell network! Please uncheck the box before continuing.
  3. After a successful login, the NAL icon will appear in your taskbar.
  4.

  5. After completing the above steps, UD Software will appear in your Start Menu (shown below). Select a category and navigate through the menus until you find the software you wish to install.
    • NOTE: The lists of software pictured below may vary slightly from what you see on your own computer due to varying access rights.

  6. Selecting an application for installation will launch an agreement window that includes a description of the selected application as well as any licensing terms you need to be aware of. If you do not wish to install the software, click "No". Otherwise, press "Yes" to begin installation.
